Water is a natural resource which is a major source of sustenance in the game. Dirty Water can be collected from lakes, the ocean, Water Basins or from the snow on the ground in Winter. It can be collected in a Flask or Large Flask.
Dirty Water can be cooked on a Campfire or in a Pot on the Metal Stove to turn it into Clean Water.
Clean Water can also be collected from the Sink once Power is acquired and a Water House has been built.
Consuming Clean Water will increase the Thirst attribute.
Consuming Dirty Water will also increase the Thirst attribute, but will lower the Health.
When cooking Water in a Pot an Onion can be added to create Onion Soup. This has to be collected by a Clay Bowl.
Both Dirty and Clean Water can be used to water plants in Plant Beds.
To stave off food poisoning, Water is required to wash hands after butchering Animals on the Butcher Table. With bloodied hands the player is prompted to wash hands when in or at a body of water or when selecting a flask containing water from the food inventory. Washing hands from a flask requires at least 10 units of water in the flask, and the act of washing hands will use up all the water in the flask. When washing hands it makes no difference whether the water is clean or dirty.
