Check for updates[]

Please ensure all video drivers are up to date, as well as your Operating System.

Ensure that The Infected is up to date / you are on the latest version.

Players can sometimes opt into a beta version while the latest version is being tested. Once the version is publicly released and goes "live", it is important that the player switch back to the live and most recent version of the game in case the old beta is still active and outdated.

Steam local files

Verify the game files[]

  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right Mouse Button click on The Infected
  • Select "Properties"
  • Select the "Local Files" tab
  • Select "Verify integrity of game files..."

Reboot your Computer[]

If Re-loading your game fails to fix the issue, the next step is to Reboot your Computer.
You would be surprised how many glitches can be solved by rebooting the entire Computer and not just the game itself.

Crashing after updates[]

Some have been experiencing a crash after updating their game files, you can try the following options to resolve it:

Delete the Settings Folder[]

  • Go to the installation directory of The Infected.
This is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Infected\TheInfected\Saves by default.
You can Right Mouse Button the Game in your Steam Library, select "Manage" from the menu and then select "Browse Local Files" from the submenu
  • Delete the Settings Folder.
  • Try and reload your game and see if it works now.
When you reload your game, you may need to reselect the language you are using and set the game settings again.

Reinstall the game[]

  • Copy the saves folder and make a backup on your desktop.
This is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Infected\TheInfected\Saves by default.
You can also press the Browse button in the "Local Files" tab.
  • Uninstall the game from Steam entirely.
  • Delete the The Infected folder here C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\TheInfected.
  • Install the game on Steam and replace the saves folder with the backup you made.
When you reload your game, you will need to reselect the language you are using and set the game settings again.

Still not working?[]

If your issue persists, please post a new thread to this Bug Reports forum.
For easy tracking, the title of the bug report post should be a description of the problem. Example of a good title: "Vambies walk through Barbed Wire fences". Example of a poor title: "Problem needs to be fixed". Be as descriptive as possible, including what step(s) you took to experience the issue, and whether it is repeatable.
If the issue includes crashing/freezing/video problems, include your PC specs in your post.

Known Issues[]

Mike disappears[]

Some players have experienced losing Mike completely and losing the ability to recall Mike to his bed. Hopefully, a bugfix will be available soon.
In the meantime, if your Mike happens to disappear and you can no longer summon him back to his bed, you will need to find and rescue him again.

Razer Cortex[]

This program reportedly causes lagging in the game.
If you experience lag, close the program and see if this solves the problem.

Game Controller[]

Game controllers are currently not supported by the developer. But (partial) Controller Support is being considered.
Some players have encountered issues when their controller is plugged in and unplugging it solved them.
Others managed to get their controller to work using reWASD.

Wood Logs[]

Wood Logs on the ground do not despawn. This fact can cause performance problems or prevent the game from loading if the game has to track too many Wood Logs that are lying about in the landscape.
For this reason, the game will load a maximum of 250 Wood Logs when the player loads a saved game. The rest are deleted. Logs that are stored in Log Carts or in Log Stands do not count towards this limit. The limit only pertains to logs lying on the ground.
