Raccoon

The Raccoon is a passive animal which roams the entire Map. It will flee from the player and it can be very elusive.

Raccoons will steal the player's food if it is left unprotected on Campfires, and will be very aggressive in their attempts to do that. It is best not to walk away when the Raccoon is around, as they will quickly come in and snatch the food.

The screeching sound that they make will alert the player to their presence.

The player can use any weapon to hunt it but a thrown Spear (of any type), an Archer Bow or a Crossbow is most effective, because the player will find it difficult to get close to the Raccoon. A head shot will kill a Raccoon outright. Hitting it anywhere else will cause it to flee, and the player will need to chase it and keep it in sight. Eventually the wounded Raccoon will bleed out and fall down dead.

Harvesting yields[]

A Raccoon that has been killed must be transported to a Butcher Table to maximize the resources that can be harvested. The player can carry the Raccoon (which causes the player to be encumbered and walk very slowly) or transport the Raccoon in a Log Cart or on the back of the Truck. The player can also butcher the Raccoon in the field, but fewer resources will be harvested.

As with other Animals (except the Crocodile), the health stat of the Raccoon can be customized in the AI section of the game's loading screen settings.
