The player's inventory is a pop-up screen that has numerous functions. Default key for opening the inventory is I on the keyboard.

Opened in this fashion, the inventory opens to the Item section of the player's backpack, where non-food items can be stored. Icons at the top of the screen display information or allow the player to switch between additional functions.

Item Inventory Icon

Item Inventory[]

This is the non-food section of the backpack that determines the player's carrying capacity. The small starter inventory with a carrying capacity of 50 units of weight can be upgraded to a larger inventory with a carrying capacity of 75.
The Item Inventory is opened by pressing I or the hotkey F1.

Food Inventory Icon

Food Inventory[]

This is the section of the backpack that holds edibles and water flasks. It cannot be upgraded to a larger size.
The Food Inventory is opened by pressing the hotkey F2.

Tools and Weapons Inventory

Tools and Weapons Inventory[]

The backpack has 4 slots for tools and weapons. When a tool or weapon is crafted, it is automatically stored in the first free slot. No tool or weapon can be crafted if no slot is empty. They are equipped by pressing the key corresponding to the slot they are in (1-4) or by rotating Middle Mouse Button.
The Tools and Weapons Inventory is opened by pressing the hotkey F3.

In the example image, the player is carrying 8.1 units of weight out of a maximum of 50. When the weight that the player is carrying exceeds the carrying capacity, the player becomes over-encumbered and can only walk at a very slow pace.

Recipe Book Icon

Recipe Book[]

The Recipe Book contains all the crafting recipes in the game plus information on how and where to acquire resources needed for crafting.
The Recipe Book is opened by pressing the hotkey F4.

Personal Crafting Table[]

This icon opens a miniature crafting board, which is a wood slab carried by the player. It can be used to craft basic early game items.
The Personal Crafting Table is opened by pressing the hotkey F5.

Technology Blueprint List Icon

Technology Blueprint List[]

This icon opens a list of all the Technology Blueprints that can be acquired in the game with checkmarks next to those that the player has already found.

Character Icon

Character Icon[]

This icon opens an outline of the player's character. Clothing and bandages can be applied and removed here. The character's body temperature is also displayed beneath the ambient temperature.

Display of In-Game Time[]

In Game Time Icon

This tells the player how many in-game days have passed since the game was started and what time of day it is.

Display of In-Game Temperature[]

In Game Temperature Icon

This tells the player what the current in-game temperature it is.

v. 1.6The resource part of the backpack will be visible by default when interacting with chests. Previously the food part of the backpack would be visible by default.
