The Control Panel is a device designed for the player to manage Power input and output and route available power to power-consuming devices (e.g. Fridge) by way of a wired connection. Many advanced technologies in The Infected require Power to run. Power produced or stored by power sources (Wind Turbines, Solar Panels and Battery Storage Devices) is fed into an invisible power grid that interfaces with the Control Panel.
The minimal requirement to power a device is to connect a Control Panel to a Junction Box with a wire and then connect the Junction Box to the power-consuming device (e.g. Fridge) with another wire. Please refer to the Wire page for details on how to connect components with Wires. Please refer to the Power page for details on different ways to configure the overall power flow from the Control Panel.
Each Control Panel that the player crafts is an exact replica of every other one, so the player can place multiple Control Panels around the map and manage Power from each one in the same way.
Control Panel User Interface[]
Control Panel User Interface
When the Control Panel is activated (default E), the right side of the Control Panel user interface displays an overview of all power-producing and storage devices (Wind Turbines, Solar Panels and Battery Storage devices), the amount of power being inputted ("Power In"), the amount of power being consumed ("Power Out") and the amount of power left over ("Power Available").
Note: Since Solar Panels are dependent on the sun to produce their maximum of 40 units of power, they often produce less. The screenshot on the right was taken at night when the panels produce no power, so the "Power/Panel" field is blank.
On the left-hand side of the Control Panel user interface there is a list of all existing Junction Boxes by the names given to them by the player. It is important to name each Junction Box in the Junction Box user interface, so that they will be identifiable in the Control Panel. The player can switch each Junction Box off and on separately in this list. It is the only way to turn power-consuming devices like the Fridge and the Oil Extractor (which are connected either directly or indirectly to a Junction Box) on and off. The Mixer is a slight exception in that it requires ingredients to mix and the player must click on the Mix button in the user interface of the Mixer to make it start mixing. Even when turned on, the Mixer only consumes power during the actual mixing process. Likewise, the Stone Grinder only consumes power if it has stones to grind.
Important: If the total amount of power available (as listed in the user interface of the Control Panel) is less than the combined amount of power required by all connected power-consuming devices (e.g. Fridge), stored Power will be drained from available Battery Storage devices until they are also empty of Power. At that point, every Junction Box will switch off and none of the power-consuming devices will receive power.
The recipe for the Control Panel is found in the Placeables section of the Build Menu under Power.
